Origins returns the 20 i 21 November, weekend in which the ninth edition of the Agri-Food Fair of Quality Products of Catalonia will bring together more than 60 producers from all over the territory and renowned chefs at the Olot Exhibition Center. All of them will offer various proposals with a prominent protagonist: quality products.
The Origins program 2021 was announced this afternoon. The presentation was made by the Councilor for Promotion of the City of Olot, Estanis Vayreda and Pep Palau, director of the company Pep Palau, by Arend & Associates -Origin organizing company-.
The Kitchen Classroom will once again have renowned professionals who will be the central focus of their presentations, the sea and mountains. This year, on Saturday they will offer live cooking sessions by Jordi Garrido (Soca-Rel, Llofriu); Fina Puigdevall and Martina Puigvert (Les Cols **, Olot); Susana Aragon (Central Gastro, El Prat de Llobregat); Ferran Pont (Fifteen Us, The Dams) and Adrià Bou (Land, Girona). And Sunday will be Albert Boronat's turn (The Embassy, Llívia); David of Coke (Sa Llagosta, Fornells a Menorca, which this year is the guest territory); Giulia Gabriele i Riccardo Radice (Fishology, Barcelona); Marc Ribas (Brutal Gastronomy); Tony Left (Mas dels Arcs, Palamós) and Isabel and Jordi Juncà will close (Ca l’Enric *, Vall de Bianya).
Likewise, in this same space, on Sunday afternoon, the presentation of the Delit digital platform, which DinàmiG promotes, will take place (La Garrotxa Innovation and Development Agency) together with Turisme Garrotxa, La Garrotxa Hospitality Association, Olot Merchants Association, Adrinoc, Plaça Mercat d’Olot and the Natural Park of the Volcanic Zone of La Garrotxa, within the framework of the Plan for the economic reactivation of Olot and La Garrotxa.
The Tasting Room will host tastings from various producers present at the fair: in total, more than thirty will take part. Products from La Garrotxa will be tasted, of the Pyrenees or Menorca, among other territories. There will also be a tasting of sausages: one of cooked sausages, one of cheeses and kombutxes or a blind tasting with products from Girona Excel·lent.
Total, in the exhibition space will be 54 stands that will host more than 60 producers who will offer tastings of their products to visitors to Origins through the exchange of tickets. The visitor will also be able to buy directly from the producer.
From the producers of Origins, a 40% they will participate for the first time, which confirms the growing interest in a specialized fair such as Origins. This year's edition maintains the format and strengthens the commitment started on 2018 with a remarkable presence of ecological products that represent the 43% of the producers present at the fair.
As for the origin of the exhibitors one 44% they come from the counties of Girona, a 19% de les de Barcelona, a 13% of those of Lleida, a 13% of those of Tarragona and a 6% from Menorca.
In reference to the sectors, Origins brings a wide variety of proposals ranging from meats and sausages, dairy products, pastry and bakery, jams, sauces, creams, patés, oils or nuts, even fruit, vegetables, ous, infusions, beer, wines, liqueurs and cavas. There will also be fermented foods such as kombutxa, xucrut or kimchi, mushrooms or spices such as saffron, others.
Menorca, guest territory
Producers from Menorca will participate in Orígens as a guest territory: the fair will be attended by 6 prominent producers on the island who will carry everything from cheeses and sausages to gin, croquettes or sweets. Chef David de Coca will also be present, specialized in making lobster stew, which will offer a session in the Cooking Classroom.
4t Baker's cake competition in Catalonia
One more year, bakers from all over will present their cakes and a specialized jury will determine which is the best sweet and savory cake. It will be Saturday 21 from November afternoon. The prize for the best sweet and savory cake will consist of a batch of 300 kilos of Es Farina de Girona for the winner of each category.
Among the prizes, there will be a new edition of the Best Product and Best Stand of Origins Award 2021.
This year, and as a novelty, it is worth highlighting the exhibition of traditional and unique sausages from La Garrotxa, which is made with the collaboration of the Guild of Artisan Butchers and Butchers of the regions of Girona, the Confraria del Gras i el Magre and the Oficis de la Carn Foundation. It can be visited throughout the weekend. There will also be a guided tour of the show and a guided tasting of sausages.
The price of admission to the fair is € 5 and includes 5 tasting tickets. In addition to tasting, the visitor will also be able to buy directly from the producer. The Tasting Room costs 1 euro. Registration for this space will take place at the entrance of the fair.
Schedule will be Saturday 20 November, of the 10 in the morning at 9 in the evening, and Sunday 21, of the 10 in the morning at 8 in the evening.
